In my previous article, the optimization of the Country Music Web Site: Part 2 - What to include pointed out that the artist country music website is your online map of care. I made a list of minimum information that should be in the website of country music. In the third part of this series, I talk about things to avoid when creating your site. Things to avoid:
- One page home - unless there is real reason to avoid the use of a login page. Usually, they are useless and do your visitors to click another time to enter their website (People on the Net does not like more click, you must obtain the information they want). If you have just released a new CD, you can use it as home, but it would be preferable to placed prominently on your homepage.
- slow loading animations - All checks or animations that are slow to load should be avoided. There are still many people in the connections to the telephone line and, if a page is too long to load, they will go elsewhere. Same with a cable modem, I have been to some sites that have driven me nuts over time it took to load a page.
- Unintelligible Navigation - Make your navigation easy to use and understand. First, I need to know who is browsing. Cute animations which revealed that the navigation when the mouse pointer passes over may seem clever, but it can really cause confusion. Also make have the same navigation options (in the same order and at the same place) on each page.
- Do not get me on your site - I can use my browser Back button of my fate. Sometimes I feel trapped in a room because there is an immediate redirect to the landing page the current home page. When this happens, I have to press the button twice quickly to the exit. People who can not only stuck up and I can promise you, is a question of your temper!
- Ensure that unit needs to work on all major browsers - To test your site in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera, at least. More and more people use Firefox and Opera and other browsers, it can be alienating visitors to have features that do not work in all browsers. Again, I spent more time.
- He has a way to turn the music on your website - Because you're a musician, you want people to hear your music. However, if you have a player who starts as soon as someone lands on your page, make sure they can turn off - you do not know where they are and the music full volume on your computer that can not be a good thing!
If visitors to your site will be useful and not shut down your site, they are more likely to visit your site in the future. Avoid items listed above, and incorporate the ideas in the first two parts this series, and you'll be well on their way to a website really cool and people want to visit your site again and again.
