If you're good at writing PLEASE HELP ME! =) Thesis advice needed!?
I'm writing a research paper on Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith, and Duke Ellington. I've come up with a working thesis, and was wondering if i could get some insight? Please and THANK YOU!
Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith, and Duke Ellington are three remarkable jazz musicians of the roaring twenties; while they contributed to the transformation of the music world, their struggles as artists changed the way African Americans were percieved in the field of entertainment.
*thinking about switching "changed" to "altered" and coming up with more vivid adjectives and such*
Ryan- thank you SO much! I love you man. haha. But seriously, I really needed the help. Your advice was greatly needed and appreciated!
Some comments in brackets:
Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith, and Duke Ellington are three remarkable jazz musicians from [changed from of, or maybe alter word organization] the roaring twenties; while ["while" might seem a little awkward here, and with the semicolon, it's a very long sentence] they contributed to the transformation of the music world, their struggles as artists changed the way African Americans were perceived [spelling of perceived, and passive voice] in the field of entertainment.
It's pretty good - this is how I might word it, but there is no true right or wrong way:
"The roaring twenties featured three remarkable jazz musicians: Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith, and Duke Ellington. They contributed greatly to the transformation of the music world, and their struggles as artists changed the way the entertainment field perceived African Americans."
If you go with something like that, you may want to change "featured" in the first sentence, though, if you can think of something stronger.
